Day 95 : She asks Why

Mentors Kiran, Soumitha and Vani spent time with Bharat, senior frontend developer from Atlassian on understanding code review process. Was a great session and we will incorporate learnings into our Bootcamp to empower her to get as closer as possible to Industry Standards. Given a low credibility educational profile she needs to build credibility by using any such opportunities.

Before going to meet Bharat, I sat with her to understand how she has worked on basics. Also used this opportunity to see how could she collaborate after the fiasco of her trust issues with her. She sat with her and started learning what HTML, CSS and Javascript means. While it was clear she hadn't focussed on the basics such as what is HyperText, Markup, Encoding, the meaning of Cascading, Strongly typed v/s loosely typed languages, what struck was she wasn't collaborating with her. When she tried giving an answer her counterpart rather than building from the discussion overrode and started from scratch. Clearly she wasn't making progress. After 2 long hours, had to sit them down and explained how counterproductive her lack of team play is. Discussed with mentors and we realised that since childhood she has worked alone and hasn't gotten enough chances to team up with her. We discussed how we could empower her to become a strong team player. More on that in the future.

After coming home the mentors and I sat with them and started preparing on other basic terms such as JRE, JDK, JVM, Normal Forms etc., and figured out she was good at what and how and missed the fundamentals of asking Why? The pattern continued for a while and had to be broken. Then what started off as a session for 2 hours at 11pm went on till 6am today morning. She was never empowered to ask Why? By the end of session we decided full stop is death and ? is life. She needs this exaggeration to break the pattern. From today the house will be an exciting place of everyone asking Why? Looking forward to it.
