Day 108: She backs her up..

The atmosphere at home is grim. The 7 who are asked to leave are very sad. The 6 who have worked hard to stay aren't happy either. At first 6 of them come to talk for the 7. And she is dismissed instantly as the ones who have compromised the values must speak.

One by one they come.

The first to come has an issue with not opening up. She indulges in faking understanding and resort to cheap closure. She is told that mentors have worked very hard and we do not see any way she could improve and after 30 mins, she leaves the scene. The next one enters. She has been forcibly married and has fought very hard to get to this bootcamp. What's heartening is that her Mother-in-Law has supported her to come here. However she is not working to her capability. Has taken communication for granted and there is no chance she could crack an interview despite good analytical and technical skills. After some negotiation she is given a warning regarding improving communication skills and asking tough questions and she leaves. The person coming next is suffering from arguing with another person who is trying to help her. She did pretty badly with a session we had organised to help people write good descriptions to user stories. She has realised her mistake and it shows. However some strict warnings need to given as she cannot keep shooting the messenger. The one coming next is a victim of transference. She is relating mentors to ones who has harmed her in the past. In this case clear counselling is required and we connect her to a therapist. The following student is very stern. She has never taken feedback seriously. She does everything she likes wholeheartedly and anything she doesn't like she gives up. In her case we cannot do much and I tell her she will have to go as she is becoming a huge management overhead. Something magical happens. One of the 6 who are going to stay stands up and asks for 1 week time to help this girl. I tell her if she is not able to she must leave next week to build some seriousness. She agrees and goes back. What a great quality of selflessness at this young age. Now everyone got a chance expect the one who resorts to cheap closure every time. And no one is willing to take a risk with her as she have never opened to any of them. It's fair. She asks me if she could take help of the team and come up with some plan. They negotiate that they will all leave if she doesn't make progress. I fake some sarcasm to challenge them. However they do not budge. The team is now getting stronger.

The day ends with a DSA class on spiral traversal of a matrix.
