Apologies for now writing blogs over last 4 days. It was a series of wanted and many unwanted events these 4 days. I start a 130km long walk starting today. Just came back walking 34 kms. 50 kms remaining for day 2 and another 50 for day 3.
The Javascript classes by Gagan and Surya is going on in full swing. She is working hard at it.
All of them are back home today. Last 2 students who had the most struggle are back today. So its a full house.
She was supposed to take part in the freedom walk of 130 kms that I talked about earlier. Unfortunately mentor Vani rejected the ask as she wants to keep up the momentum of Frontend classes.
As she came back from home in batches everyone had different stories.
She had 2 marriage proposals that came home. She refused to serve the boy food to hold her self respect.
She was told by her brother to stay back however she fought and got back.
Her father had health issues and her uncle refused to send her back. She fought that too.
She has terrible financial issues. JTD decided to provide a small stipend for her to come back. She is now back home.
She lost her aunt to liver problems.
Mentor soumitha lost her uncle and had to leave to Chennai.
While there were so many things we were battling, she was caught using telugu language at home. Telugu was restricted to help her learn fluent english. And it was told if she ever broke this rule, she must go home. And 6 of them have broken the rule and accepted. We have no choice. It's heartbreaking. All of them are looking pretty good and will be fully ready in a month for the interviews. However by being hypocrite she has broken the trust.
I just cannot think. Feeling very helpless. Called the HR of JTD and asked what to do. She said policy is a policy and it is a violation. I do not want to send her home. I ask the HR if there is any relaxation. She says the only thing allowed is banning her from becoming a JTD volunteer in the future.
I quickly prepare a doc explaining the same https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gXhTJJ-kvjE2oHk7AqX7899-dE5m202z/view?usp=sharing Manju gets them printed. I hand it over to her. She is all tears. I tell her that this was clearly explained before and this is a clear violation. While making mistakes are totally okay having 2 behaviours just doesn't cut it. The tears haven't stopped. I feel terrible. However we have always followed our policies at JTD. She asks for 24 hours and we say okay.
24 hours later, She is still saying the same. With much negotiation and clearly calling quitting the program is the only alternative and we suggest she not do that. She is at the fag end and the job is important for her family.
I have to leave to the airport to receive my parents. I have no joy left. While coming back amma asks something and I blast it out. Ask her for forgiveness and say that I am not in a mood. At home we have a small event. I have no mood. However all guests have come. We decide she not attend the event as it's a happy one and we do not want someone to cry.
The event ends and so does her Frontend classes. I sit with her and explain Tree traversal and Insert methods using recursion. I cannot look at her face as I know it will trigger some emotions.
As I type I still haven't gotten out of disappointment. We have spent 5 months with each other and had so many dreams about JTD. Now she cannot be a part of it. I would rate this as one of the top 5 disappointments of my life. I am still unable to talk to my parents after having blurt it out in the car yesterday.
Hope to get some resolve in tomorrows walk.
Day 130 tomorrow
Day 126 - 129 : "In a small house in Bangalore 15 girls from a town Palamaner, AP are training under the guidance of JTD to become full stack developers. They are staying together for 6 months for a gruelling 15 hours a day bootcamp. The series of posts cover their day to day stories". Day 126 - 129 of their journey
